About Kara

I've worked with words, both writing and editing, for over 20 years. I hold a Certificate in Editing from the University of Washington, and I am a member of the Northwest Editors’ Guild, the Editorial Freelancers Association, and the American Copy Editors’ Society.

My first paid editing job was at the Pacific Lutheran University Writing Center during my undergraduate studies, and I continued academic work throughout my graduate education at Claremont Graduate University. After working in written customer service for several years, I became an independent education consultant to assist high school students with college applications. I am passionate about helping young or inexperienced writers learn more about the writing process as they gain confidence in their own skills. You can learn more about my work history at my LinkedIn page.

I'm most interested in video games, web comics, fantasy and young adult novels, and general fiction manuscripts, but I have experience editing in a wide variety of genres.

I currently live in Kirkland, Washington, with my husband and two children. I enjoy drinking tea, playing board games, and watching Critical Role.
